One truly impressive characteristic that sets Bob Bestani apart from many of his Republican opponents is that he refuses to promise that which he — nor any of the other candidates, for that matter — cannot deliver, or won’t really make the country more stable or the people feel more secure. He quite rightly scoffs as pandering, candidates who are vowing to repeal the new health-care bill, or cut taxes given the size of the deficit and national debt.
Bob Bestani clearly provides the vision, the knowledge and the clear-headedness to represent the people of the 1st District in Congress and he has shown by his intelligence and hard work that he will be the kind of representative that voters could be proud of.

China has now overtaken Japan as the world’s second largest economic power. The news came with the inevitability we have come to expect, given their record of 10% annual growth. This rise from poverty has never been equaled in world history. Two hundred years from now, historians will remember this as the most important event [...]

Perhaps the most accurate title of a member of Congress is that of Representative. The person who is given the honor to speak for the members of a constituency needs to continually understand the views of constituents by careful monitoring of their letters and calls and thoughtful answers to their views
Most letters to a Member [...]

Bob Bestani told a Foster’s Daily Democrat editorial board recently that his stance on the war in Afghanistan separates him from other Republicans looking to unseat U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter in November.
While this newspaper is not ready to offer an endorsement of his position, it certainly deserves thought and consideration.
Bestani believes [...]

MANCHESTER – Congressional hopeful Bob Bestani argues that whatever his rivals lack in substance, they make up for in pandering.
He accused fellow Republicans running in the 1st District of mimicking party talking points and having the campaign churn out “fluff.”
“I’m just hearing platitudes,” Bestani said in an interview. “I can’t tell you how many times [...]

Having taken the time to read the opinion of the federal district court I am appalled by the ruling on this exceedingly important issue. We can and must get control of our boarders and send out a very clear message on this issue. It is unacceptable that the very first act that a would be [...]

I have never wanted or sought a political career. But, by happenstance, I find that my life’s experience and my career have given me the background and the experience to, once again, be of service to my country. I cannot and will not, idly stand standby and watch our great country slide downward without at least doing my best to be of service. And so, I am running for a seat in U.S. House of Representatives. With all due respect to my competitors, I would happily step aside if I felt there was anyone better equipped to represent NH’s 1st Congressional District.

We are losing the war in Afghanistan and we have no good options there.
Our security can be much better defended, by securing our borders and investing our money in our intelligence capabilities.
When President Obama was agonizing over his decision over the future of our efforts in Afghanistan last December, I found myself speaking with a former Green Beret and Vietnam veteran. We agreed that Afghanistan was becoming eerily reminiscent of our painful experience in South East Asia. We are once again propping up a weak and thoroughly corrupt regime, with no definable mission or exit strategy, little in the way of clear and measurable progress, against an entrenched enemy who merely needs to wait us out to win. Our allies are slowly drifting away while our enemies are piling in.

Knowing that there is little danger of being publicly challenged, some candidates are now listing out their “agendas”, stacked with wholly unrealistic promises which will never be met and are fully dead on arrival. Not only can these promises never be met, but they will ultimately feed the public’s cynicism and contempt for politics, politicians and our government. As statements of long term intent they would be on the mark. But has short term promises they are empty sloganeering. We need to get serious and honest with the electorate.
Of late, various candidates have been pushing three promises which are nothing short of pandering to the crowds. I fully support the intent and goal of these promises. But, such promises cannot be attained in the next few years will only add to the electorate’s disillusionment. Let’s not repeat these rhetorical sins for the sake of winning an election. Let’s frame the issues seriously and speak to the voters as thoughtful adults. The voters will know how to cast their ballots.

For the past several days, even casual observers of current events will have heard about the riots occurring in the streets of Greece. Greece is effectively bankrupt and the massive austerity measures being imposed are likely to inflict significant economic damage.
It is astonishing that Washington is now adding on new entitlement programs, just as the European social welfare model is collapsing. If we stay on the course we’re presently on, we may very well be forced to endure some of the same measures that Greece is now taking.
There is some cause for optimism, since the US has strengths and flexibilities that Greece does not and there is enough time for us to correct the current course. If we wake up to this reality now, we can avert the worst of it. But, if we do not see the writing on the wall and respond appropriately, all bets are off.
There is no doubt that the Greek crisis will have an effect upon our economy. California and other states, face many of the same economic challenges, which could mean that the problems that face Greece could very well be heading our way. If nothing else, the near 1,000 point intra-day drop in the U.S. stock market demonstrates nervousness in the markets as well as the strong link between what’s happening in Greece and the rest of the world.
